Status: Development Application
Year: 2011
Client: McGrath Holdings Pty Ltd
This project was undertaken in collaboration with Spence Pearson Architects. The brief called for a residential response to a disused heritage listed wool mill on the banks of the Georges River in Liverpool, Sydney. Half the site was covered by an enormous steel trussed, saw-toothed shed structure with a regular column module. Our immediate response was to retain as much of the existing structure as possible, using the truss modules as the basis for a series of repeated low cost townhouses. The existing concrete hardstand was retained due to remediation and would form the basis for a series of internal streets. Retained trusses and partial roof sections would give the streets a unique enclosed industrial character.
